Burning Man in Pet Society

Every year before Labor Day, thousands of people gather at Burning Man, a festival in Nevada. They camp in the desert, make art, dance, perform, and pretty much go wild. On the last night of the festival, they burn a large wooden statue of a man.

The Burning Man experience is being recreated in Pet Society by Jacel, who’s been stockpiling festive items and bonfires for months. This is his second “Burning Pet” festival, and he says that he experimented a lot to figure out which objects could be set at different levels on shelves, and which could only be set on the ground. “It’s tricky and inconsistent of what objects can be put in front of or behind others. That can shift when you or another player visits the same scene,” he says.

Thanks to the recently released party feature in Pet Society, the in-game scenes look almost as frantic as the real thing.

It’s a crowded party in the hot desert.

Brief History of Burning Man
Burning Man was started in 1986 by a man named Larry Harvey, who had recently broken up with a girlfriend. To get over his heartache, he built a statue of a man and burned it on a beach in San Francisco with a group of friends. It became a ritual and grew over the years. Now, the festival takes place in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert and attracts over 48,000 people.
