Sneak Peek at New Fish in Pet Society

Save all your coins for bait, because a bunch of new fish will be released this Monday, September 7. Since Pet Society operates on Greenwich Mean Time, this means that if you’re in North or South America, you can find these fish on Sunday evening (8 p.m. Eastern). A video on YouTube shows these fish, plus other items for the coming week.

By the way, are you wondering how some people get a hold of these images before they are released to the world? I’m not talking about the previews of items you might see in the Mystery Boxes, or the clothing you can see on other pets at the stadium. I’m talking about images like the fish that aren’t shown by the game in any way. I used to think that the people posting those images had an inside connection to Playfish. Perhaps one of their friends is a designer there? But that’s not the case.

When I wrote about cheating and hacking two weeks ago, I also contacted C.M. Wong, a Hong Kong gamer and hacking enthusiast who informed me that the unreleased items are stored in the Playfish Flash Files. “We can use Flash Decompiler to see them,” he wrote.

“Huh?” I didn’t understand the jargon, but I asked him if he could point me to a URL where I could see the files too. He never replied again, but the Playfish corporate office chimed in and said that taking images from the game before they are released is a big no-no. The company defines it as hacking and it is against their Terms of Service.

However, I wonder how strictly the company reinforces their Terms of Service. I keep hearing that a user’s account might become disabled because of hacking or cheating, but no one I know has actually confirmed it.

ive also been looking for people to confirm being banned for cheating or hacking. ive only found people who have been banned because of their action in the ps forum, not in the game. thats why i try to keep a low profile in the forum…

I wonder how anyone manages to cheat. I’d love to but my pet society won’t work with flash 9 and no cheat works with flash 10…

Apparently it’s the universe telling not to cheat..?

Hi there!! well, actually there’s a legal way to guess the next week theme, and the clother of the upcoming week:

    – in the stadium the other pets, randomly, may wear the upcoming clothes. I had seen the previews in the forums but i never knew how the other pets got a hold of the clothes… the thing is, that when you don’t have enough friends to race with, the game generates pets for you to race, and some of those wear the new clothes.

    – the items in the mistery boxes are released the week before… this weeks misterious items were the chicen egg thingy, the compass, and a ship-shaped bookcase… so those last two may give us the hint.

and, by the way, the rose flower was released this week. i got one in my garden this morning!

    Hi Laura,

Thanks for your comment! I am aware of the legal previews – the Pet Society World blogger writes about them often. But those are still released by Playfish, because the images are being shown in the game. The previews of the fish are not shown in any way until a hacker releases them. I’ll clarify my post.

    Hi Ruth,

That’s good to hear that people have been banned because of their actions in the forum. I’ve heard of a lot of scammers who don’t trade fairly. Did the people get kicked out of just the forums or the game too?

ive actually read about people being banned from the game through the forum, which is why they advise not to use in the forum the same email you use for facebook. but ive never really read any details about anyone who has been banned from the game, only random comments, which makes you wonder how true it might really be. mostly ive read about people complaining about being banned from the forum for no good reason. i think the best way to clear this out would be to open a thread about this in the forum, but then again, who would want to risk messing with the moderators?
